Awareness and Action: I AM is a group, but we are also members of a larger community and as such have a shared responsibility to contribute towards society. As individuals putting abilities in motion our continued development should inherently improve those around us. Through this program, our organization will work to develop awareness about spinal cord injuries/disorders along with the power of abilities when they are allowed to flourish. It is our belief that increased awareness, followed by action, will lead to change and better understanding that positively impacts everyone.
The following is a list of some of the ways we will endeavor to increase awareness and action:
• Who Knew?? The goal of this initiative is to routinely share content about the realities that accompany SCI/D. Our hope is to increase the awareness that is needed to enact action.
• The Annual Abilities Tip Off is an event in which students from area colleges compete in a wheelchair basketball tournament. The goal is to create a fun experience in which young, soon to be professionals within health related fields can gain a glimpse of the life of wheelchair users through sports.
• Workout on Wheels
If you have any ideas on how we can help spread awareness in the community, or if there is a project you would like us to be involved in, please contact us at: firstname.lastname@example.org.
